The journey!

Hello for my part too!

Together with Tom we have planned this European road trip adventure since January this year. The main plan is to rent a car in Munich, drive for around 7 days around the western Alps, returning to Munich airport.

We plan to pass through seven countries on this roadtrip, mainly in Italy, France and Switzerland, but making stop-offs at places like Monaco and Liechtenstein. One can hardly resist the temptation of these small gems. In these countries, we plan to find the best driving roads, as this is a road trip by car. We will attempt to avoid highways as much as possible. Actually, one of the motivators for this road trip was the Stelvio Pass; the third highest alpine road pass, which has featured in among other places the British Top Gear television program.

The route plan so far is not set in stone, but it looks something this (Google Maps).
Note that the selected roads are not exactly the ones we have planned, as Google Maps seems to have problems handling this complex route plans.

Resting places will be:
  • Day 1: Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany (actually on the Austrian side)
  • Day 2: Limone sul Garda, Italy
  • Day 3: Portofino, Italy
  • Day 4: Nice, France
  • Day 5: Somwehere between Nice and Geneva
  • Day 6: Geneva, Switzerland
  • Day 7: Feldkirch, Austria
We will cover approximately 2500 kilometers (~1500 miles) in a little under eight days.

More information about our trip will be posted as we find the time.
